There are more Afari Gyans in Ghana
Last Tuesday, March 3, 2015 was the day which was originally scheduled for the District Assembly/Unit Committee Elections throughout the country with the exception of the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality
The municipality is yet to complete its four-year tenure as a result of a protracted litigation which caused the election there to be put on hold at the time the national exercise was conducted in 2010.
The 2015 District Assembly/Unit Committee Elections was called off after the Supreme Court of Ghana ruled that the Electoral Commission (EC), headed by Dr Kwadwo Afari Gyan, had failed to operate within the ambit of the law, thereby depriving some eligible Ghanaians of the opportunity to contest in the election.
It took a fisherman from Winneba to petition the Supreme Court over the infringement on his rights as a citizen of Ghana who is eligible to vote and be voted for in an election.
