Tony D advocates stronger family ties
It is an up-tempo, danceable highlife piece recorded at Pups Records, Juapong, in the Volta Region.
Rendered in pidgin English, it is a bubbly guitar and percussion-dominated track that gives Tony D room to put his case across.
He boldly states what he sees as a negative attitude of folks, especially those more financially endowed, who turn their back on family relations who need help to turn things around in their lives.
To him, God blesses people not only for the sake of their immediate families alone but also for the trickling down of some of the resources to help uplift other close.
“Some older well-to-do folks do not see the need to help other family people though they can. They drive to their home regions in their posh cars on occasions and only expect to be kowtowed to, especially by the young ones, while there.
“They forget those young ones need help now to also grow into responsible characters. You cannot say you have your nuclear family so your brother, nephew or cousin is not your problem. People being self-centred and ignoring to lend helping hands to relations is a global phenomenon that needs to be talked about,” says Tony D, who hails from Ho.
The man is the Volta regional Chairman of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) and also the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Tosh TV and Tosh FM at Ho.
He has recorded different styles of music in the past and says the medium is his only way of sharing his ideas with society.
“I’m a musician. I’m not a politician. I don’t have any other platform than the music. That’s why I always say my bit through music, ” states the widely-travelled Tony D who has performed in places such as the United States, Nigeria and South Africa.
