Prof Martin Owusu to be honoured

The Board of Governors of the Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah African Genius Awards will today, April 15, organise an event in honour of Professor Martin Owusu, first recipient of the African Genius Award for Drama. 

The event takes place from 4.30 p.m at the Methodist University College at Dansoman in Accra, where the playwright, actor, director and theatre scholar currently lectures. 

Highlights of the evening will include excerpts from two of Prof. Owusu’s most celebrated plays. He will then be available for a conversation with the audience. 

The Guest of Honour will be Justice Sophia Akuffo, Justice of the Supreme Court of Ghana. Several other high-profile personalities are expected to attend the event.

Professor Martin Owusu was among 17 other Ghanaians awarded with the African Genius Award in 2014 in recognition of the impact of their works in Arts and Science, as well as Technology and Innovation.

The Osagyefo African Genius Awards ceremony, initiated by Mr Enimil Ashon, is a biennial event. In between the award years, the Board has instituted a quarterly series to enable honourees to share their thoughts with the rest of the world.
