Peace cake cut at Ho
An extra ordinary musical show was held in Ho to commemorate the nation’s 59th independence anniversary at the Woezor Hotel.
Organised by a private radio station, TOSH FM in Ho, the event also saw the cutting of a peace and solidarity cake by all representatives of political parties as a sign of commitment towards a peaceful election in November as well as to foster the spirit of nationalism among citizens.
The show attracted some top musicians in the Volta Region whose performances set the Woezor Hotel agog.
In an address, the MP for Ho Central, Mr Benjamin Kpodo, said the declaration by the first president of Ghana , Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah on independence day that the battle had ended was relevant but the struggle against hardships and impoverishment remain a war to be fought consistently until victory was achieved.
The Deputy Volta Regional Minister, Mr Francis Ganyaglo, urged Ghanaians to dismiss any form of unrest towards the elections and said the outcome would strengthen the democratic credentials of the nation.
The chairman of the Volta Region Peace Council, Reverend Monsignor Anthony Kornu, said a campaign for peaceful election should not be taken as a joke because the experiences of war afflicted countries elsewhere had revealed that war is not an experience to be emulated.
In a welcome address, the general manager of TOSH FM, Mr Kwame Senyo, announced that his outfit had planned to organise a constitution sensitisation radio quiz programme among second cycle institutions in 20 administrative districts of the Volta Region.
“By these series of public competitions, we hope to educate not only the participating students but also the programme audience as well as our numerous listeners on the constitutional provisions on all spheres of life”, he stated.
Mr Senyo said citizens should be mindful of the hardships being suffered in war torn countries around the world and therefore should resolve to give peace a chance in all their actions before, during and after the elections.
