Buddy Agedah is first non-Ghanaian to win Ghana Dance Merit award

Nigerian dance artist, Buddy Doubara Agedah is the first non-Ghanaian to receive the Ghana Dance Merit award.

Based on merit, the award was conferred on him at the second edition of the Ghana Dance Industry (GHADI) awards, held at the National Theatre in Accra recently.

He was honoured for his outstanding contributions to Afro-Latin dance development in West Africa.

Speaking on the dancer’s impact and why he was chosen for the award, founder of the Ghana Dance Industry Awards, Robert Klah, said, “He has redefined social dance culture, creating platforms that celebrate creativity, cultural exchange, and unity.

“Through his leadership, he has championed the integration of Afro-Latin dance within the broader West African cultural narrative. His international cultural exchange programmes have connected dancers from Nigeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Benin Republic, and beyond.

“Through these collaborations, he has helped young dancers gain exposure, refine their craft, and find opportunities on prestigious global platforms,” he said.

Other winners at the event are AfroNitaaa, Mr Drew, Laladzy, Abigail, Allo Maadjoa and Prince “MIK” Ofori, organiser of the CDC festival in Germany.
