Bola Ray ‘overthrows’ Sefa Kayi

Ever since the inception of the Radio and Television Personality Awards four years ago, Kwami Sefa Kayi of Peace FM has always walked home with Radio and Television Personality of the Year Award, the topmost award each year.

The story however changed this year when Kwabena Anokye Adisi aka Bola Ray was done the honours when the RTP came off at the Accra International Conference Centre last Saturday.

Talking to Showbiz after the event, Bola Ray who is the CEO of EIB and co-host of Starr FM’s Starr Drive said he is honoured by the ultimate award.

 “I am really humbled. I believed I would win some awards because I have been nominated in a number of categories but winning three awards is overwhelming.

“All I can say is that hard work pays. I believe me and my team worked hard and I am grateful to my wife Dorcas, my staff and all who made this happen” he added.

Bola Ray also won the Late Afternoon Show Host of the Year (Starr Drive) and Greater Accra Radio Personality of the Year.

For an event that has fraught with a lot of flaws since its inception, Big Events Ghana, organisers of the annual awards redeemed its image with a better show last Saturday.

 A colourful stage, clear sound and good lighting was an indication the event had improved. And from the time emcee for the night, DKB mounted the stage, he wasted no time to set the ball rolling by announcing the first batch of awards which was presented by different people in a well-coordinated manner.

After the second batch of awards were presented, hiplife duo  Akatakyie who have not been heard of a while now mounted the page. They had a great show as the audience danced and sang alongside with them.

Highlife artiste Quarme Zaggy who followed next did not live up to expectation as his stage performance was boring to watch. Although he sang his popular song Just the Two of Us featuring Okyeame Kwame, he was still not able to move the audience.

Although she performed a single song, gospel singer Anita Afriyie was also great  on the night. Her Medawase song really worked for her.

Bisa Kdei with two well-endowed dancers also entertained the audience.

In all 42 awards were given to deserving radio and TV presenters.

Some of the awardees are  Bola Ray (Starr FM), Best Radio Personality Greater Accra ,  Akosua Ago Aboagye Peace FM/Okay FM/Neat FM Radio Newscaster of the Year (Local Language), Dzifa Bampoe – Joy FM Radio Newscaster of the Year (English Language) , Fati Shaibu Ali – ETV,  TV Female Newscaster of the Year  , Oheneba Nti – Oman FM- Radio Development Show of the Year –, Gifty Anti – GTV- TV Development Show Host of the Year , Eddy Ray – Hello FM,  Radio DJ of the Year , Agyemang Prempeh – Rainbow Radio Gospel Radio Show Host of the Year.

Also, Kwami Sefa Kayi, Rev. Owusu Ansah and Betty Apau Oppong were enacted  into the RTP  Hall of Fame.
