Becca, Dzesi for Vlisco
Afro-pop star, Becca and the Dzesi all-female band will provide music for a grand celebration of women by the Vlisco Group next Saturday, April 6 at the State House in Accra.
Vlisco is an acclaimed manufacturer of wax print among other and it unveiled five Ghanaian women role models on March 8 as part of the International Women’s Day celebration in this country. One of the women would be chosen as Vlisco ambassador for a year at the State House event which includes a fashion show.
Becca, known for hits such as No Away, Daa Ke Daa, Fire, Sugar and You Lied To Me, has sung at several high-profile functions here and abroad. She is therefore expected to be in her element as she performs at the show that seeks to honour and show respect to women for their for achievements in various endeavours of life.
The unique Dzesi band is excited to have been selected to liven up the fashion show with its music. It has been around since 2009 and has featured at major music events like Music of Ghanaian Origin (MOGO), Kojo Antwi 24th Night, Mac Tontoh Tribute Night and Becca’s Girl Talk Show.
The band, which has travelled extensively across the sub-region, is itself a celebration of the capabilities of women to hold their heads up high in a male-dominated area of work. The members are looking forward to thrill at the Vlisco programme with jazzy instrumentals, versions of timeless highlife pieces and their own songs.
The five nominees for the 6.30pm Vlisco show are Ellen Maame Hagan of L’Aine Service Ltd; Constance Elizabeth Swaniker of Accents & Arts; Shirley Frimpong-Manso of Sparrow Productions; Mawuena Trebarh of Inspire Africa Consult Ltd and Abena Amoah, an investment banker.
