Afriyie, Okyeame Kwame lift up Kwabena Kwabena

Afriyie“It is a laudable national event so I’m completely for it but I’m also happy to be part of it because it is an initiative from a highlife artiste and the effort will definitely help more people know the relevance and maturity of contemporary highlife in this country.”

Those were the words of Afriyie, formerly part of the Wutah duo. He is one of the artistes scheduled to support Kwabena Kwabena at his charity concert  slated for  Saturday, October 19  at the State House to raise funds for patients suffering from heart diseases.

Also on the bill  on the night to help Kwabena Kwabena’s   charity effort will be Samini, OJ, Efya, Funny Face, Joojo, Okyeame Kwame, Stella Seal,  Sarkodie and Becca.

Afriyie told Showbiz in an interview that anyone who comes up with a worthy idea to help society must be propped up by all others who share his vision.

He was particularly excited about the show because Kwabena Kwabena has established himself as a force in highlife, a genre of music that he (Afriyie) thinks is on the rise.

“We in the highlife fraternity need to stand by Kwabena Kwabena because he is doing a lot for the music. People assumed not too long ago that highlife was a vanishing style of music but young folks like us are proving that it is very much alive.”

Afriyie won the Highlife Artiste of the Year award at the 2013 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards with his Love Of My Life single. He has since then put out another scintillating highlife piece called Everlasting Love.

“As the reigning highlife ‘champion,’ Afriyie is looking forward to putting up a performance that befits that status,” said his manager, Richard Berko.

Pushed for an idea of Afriyie’s repertoire for the night, Berko said what he knew for sure was that the artiste won’t play any songs from his Wutah days.

“Afriyie has enough material to fill whatever time he would be allotted at the show,” he added.

Meanwhile, Okyeame Kwame has also pointed out that supporting Kwabena Kwabena on such a good initiative was a step in the right direction.

Kwabena Kwabena is a good friend and has supported me on several occasions.  If he has come up with such a brilliant idea to help heart patients, I believe it is time for me also to  show him some brotherly love,” Okyeame said.

According to him, the heart is very delicate and he could not think of any reason why he should not support Kwabena Kwabena to achieve his worthwhile goal.

“I’m more than prepared for the concert on  October 19 and I want everyone to come and help the good cause,” Okyeame Kwame said.
