Zohzoh shoots ‘Borla’ video
With a camera crew in tow filming heaps of rubbish in the nation’s capital, singer-songwriter Zohzoh has over the last couple of weeks been around shooting a video for his latest song called ‘Borla Borla Scatter Scatter.’
A popular jargon to describe waste or refuse in our system here is ‘borla’ and the uncontrolled abundance of it everywhere is what triggered Zohzoh, real name Yaw Boateng, to come out with his song.
Zohzoh lived in New Zealand for about 12 years before relocating home. The prevalent poor sanitation seems to have caught his attention, pushing recently to release a track on the lack of toilets in homes.
The man has now turned attention to the huge piles of rubbish around us with the warning that we stand getting killed by ‘borla’ and not Ebola.
Recorded at Rickey Studios at Teshie in Accra, ‘Borla Borla Scatter Scatter’ is a danceable Afro-beat piece that reminds one of the late Fela Anikulapo Kuti from Nigeria and his biting message songs.
Zohzoh says the intention behind the song is to get people dancing while reminding them of the danger to ourselves by not keeping the environment clean.
“I’m like the proverbial gong gong beater in the system. I’m only announcing that I have arrived with a campaign song to help keep the country clean. This is a national responsibility for everybody. We must not wait till ‘borla’ kills us all,” Zohzoh states.
Musicians that worked with Zohzoh in the studio to bring out the song included Bill Mekarides (tenor sax), Ebenezer Kyei (guitar), Rickey (keyboards and bass) and Andrew Hansen (trumpet).
They were aware the tune must be gripping enough to make people listen to the urgent message in it and they ably support Zohzoh to tell his crucial ‘borla’ story.
