Pianim bows out as chair of UBA Board

A renowned economist and politician, Mr Kwame Pianim, has stepped down as the chairman of the board of directors of United Bank for Africa (UBA Ghana).

Mr Pianim has served as board chairman of the bank since its inception in 2004 and his retirement ushers in Mr Kenneth Orji, a graduate from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria.

At a ceremony on the eve of Ghana’s Independence Day in Accra in his honour, he expressed appreciation to the group for  the opportunity to work with the bank.

Mr Pianim encouraged the leadership on the African continent to increase trade among themselves and take advantage of the huge opportunities thereof. 

For his part, Mr Orji acknowledged some of the achievements of Mr Pianim in Ghana and particularly at UBA, saying “Mr Piamin is the simplest yet most astute man I have ever met.” 

Others, including the Managing Director of UBA Ghana, Mrs Abiola Bawuah, also commended Mr Pianim for his selfless service to the growth of the bank. 

 

New Board Chairman 

Mr Orji is a J. F. Kennedy Scholar, having emerged national first place winner of the John F. Kennedy Memorial Essay Contest organised by the US Government. 

He graduated with BSc Hons and was awarded the Sir James Robertson Prize and Medal for Outstanding Performance in Economics. 

He also obtained MSc Accounting and Finance from the London School of Economics and attended Harvard Business School (Programme for Management Development).   

Mr Orji has more than 33 years of experience, primarily in banking and finance, human capital development, consulting and advisory services.
