Hydronomics breaks boundaries

Hydronomics Ltd is a wholly owned Ghanaian company that specialises in ground water development – essentially borehole drilling and construction.

It is one of the companies that salvaged the industry and made it a preserve of indigenous companies, warding off stiff competition from Asians.

Currently, the company has a substantial share of bid contracts financed by the government and development partners. Its operations span across the 10 regions of Ghana as it has drilling crews across the country.

The Marketing Manager of Hydronomics Ltd, Mr Duke A. Anabah and his colleague, Mr Abdul-Aliou Samed, the Site Manager, told the GRAPHIC BUSINESS recently that the company’s secrets hinged on the quality of personnel with the technical acumen and eyes for details.

He said the calibre of personnel at the company translated into the quality of work it executed, thus making it one of the best in the country.

Following the success chalked up in building underground water systems across the country, the company now undertakes civil works – construction of roads, real estate and piping.

Mr Anabah said the due to its expandeds cope and equipment, it also conducted site selection of boreholes using different geophysical and hydrological investigative techniques, pump testing, construction of water systems and water treatment plants as well as terrain and geological mapping.

“We think we have done well, made a positive impact in Ghana, and want to extend the same quality of work to other parts of the West African sub-region,” Mr Anabah said.

Already, Hydronomics has participated in international tenders for the rehabilitation of water systems in three communities in Liberia, which is currently being evaluated. The company hopes to grab a contract and bring its quality services to Liberia as well.

At the recent solo Exhibition on Made in Ghana products and services in Monrovia, Liberia, the company was assisted to hold meetings with UNICEF and the Liberia Sewage and Water Corporation.

The foundation

The company’s success is primarily hinged on the tack record and expertise of its founder, Dr Julius Aptidon Awini, a Hydrogeologist and former Regional Director of the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA). He understands exactly what it means to ensure quality in the area of work.

Having mastered the borehole drilling, Hydronomics, which was incorporated in 2004, now builds medium-sized water systems from scratch to finish. It has since May 2004 worked on more than 500 boreholes of different kinds.

Classified K1D1 by the Ministry of Water Resources, Works and Housing, the company is headed by the Managing Director, with its works supervised by a three-member board.

It believes in the deployment of state-of-the-art equipment for projects coupled with a highly skilled, qualified and experienced staff.

Landmark projects

Some of the landmark contracts it had performed include the drilling of 47 large-diametre boreholes for eight towns in the Western and Eastern regions, rehabilitation of 42 boreholes in some towns in the Upper East and West regions, the drilling and construction of 91 boreholes in Kintampo and surrounding communities. The company’s projects span across all regions.

It also constructed a two-storey building at the Madina Social Centre; nine-unit three bedroom flats at Ogbojo, Accra; classroom blocks in Krachi West and also undertook earth works at the Ghana Gas Plant site at Atuabo, Western Region.

The company’s clients include the UNICEF, Ghana Gas, Ghana Water Company, Korea International Cooperation Agency; CWSA; metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies; the Millennium Development Authority; Sinopec; World Vision International and UNHCR.
