GCGL receives GMC award winners

Three of Ghana’s contestants at the 2014 Global Management Challenge (GMC), have presented their certificate to the Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL).

Mr Daniel Sowah, Mr William Quartey-Papafio and Mr Michael Bortey, who are students of Valley View University, presented their certificate in recognition of the role the company’s brand the GRAPHIC BUSINESS, played for the team during the local competition.

The Director of Newspapers at the GCGL, Mr Yaw Boadu-Ayeboafoh, receiving the award on behalf of the Managing Director of the GCGL, Mr Kenneth Ashigbey, congratulated the team and urged them to strive to earn more laurels in the future.

The students, who were sponsored financially by Valley View University for the international competition,  expressed their gratitude to all their sponsors and the management of the GCGL.

The Global Management Challenge consists  a management simulation in which participating teams pretend to run a company, with the objective of getting the highest investment performance.

Each edition begins with a team draw and the teams are organised into groups, with each group creating a competitive market, in which the teams compete with one another.

Each team receives the history of the company it is expected to run and the team is supposed to outline a corporate strategy.

Every team launches its strategy by making functional decisions in different areas of the company including marketing, production, human resources and finance.

All decisions are then submitted by the various teams in the form of a management decisions sheet to the simulator through the Internet.

The simulator then analyses and compares the teams' decisions and produces a management report for each team, showing the detailed results in financial and operational terms.

This process is repeated over five developing decision periods during the competition, and the company with the highest investment ‘return’ is adjudged the winner, and the other positions follow in that order.

Ghana placed 6th out of 22 countries that took part in the competition which was held in Russia.
