Access Bank donates to School of Languages

As part of its long term commitment to developing the educational sector, Access Bank Ghana has extended its support to the School of Languages at the University of Ghana in Accra. 

Geared towards the improvement of learning, the bank donated a new Xerox WorkCentre Multifunctional Printer, expected to assist the school manage and distribute documents effectively, whilst accelerating their work flow to serve the student community. 

 

The Group Head for Personal Banking at Access Bank, Mr Stephen Abban, commended the school for the strides it has made over the years in preserving and improving communication in said local Ghanaianlanguages. 

He said Access Bank was committed to forming collaborations with various schools in the university, including the School of Languages.

He said that the bank will soon open an ultra-modern branch on campus to serve the needs of the university community. 

Handing over the items to the school, the Head of Corporate Communications, Nana Adu Kyeremateng, noted that the gesture formed part of the bank’s corporate social responsibility. 

“We appreciate the need for increased investments in education and through our sustainability strategy, we are joining other stakeholders to reduce the deficits in this sector to create more opportunities for our youth as they climb up the ladder”.

Receiving the donation, the Dean of the School of Languages, Professor Nana Aba Amfo, expressed gratitude for the bank’s generosity. 

“We are grateful to Access Bank for this gesture, which is a sign of good partnership between the School and the Bank. We will continue to ensure the mandate entrusted to us to impact our young generation will be fulfilled”, she added. 

Access Bank continues to demonstrate its commitment for community investment and was recently recognised at the West African Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Excellence Awards as “Best Bank in Corporate Social Responsibility”, an accolade that was also awarded to the bank in 2014 and 2010 at the Ghana Banking Awards.

The bank has dedicated resources to social investments in key areas such as education, health, environment, sports and the arts to improve the well-being of several communities. 

The School of Languages, established in 1964, is one of the oldest in the country’s history and the African continent. Over the years, it has become a centre for teaching and researching all aspects of Ghanaian languages as well as linguistics theory.
