NGO to roll out campaign on good electoral practices

A non-governmental organisation, Change Attitude Ghana (CAG), will from January next year, undertake a nationwide campaign aimed at sensitising Ghanaians to negative acts or conducts that could create needless tension ahead of the 2020 elections.

The campaign, according to the Founder and President of CAG, Mr Ernest Boateng, would also focus on educating the electorate to adhere to the right electoral practices to be rolled out by the Electoral Commission (EC).

“2020 is a big year for Ghana and as an attitude-based organisation, we will begin a campaign that will target the behaviour of the electorate,” he said in an interview with the Daily Graphic in Accra.

Over the past few years of CAG’s existence, Mr Boateng said the organisation had devoted its resources to the training and preparation of young ambassadors to roll out campaigns that would address development issues.

“We have done campaigns that focused on changing the attitude of Ghanaians towards the environment, respecting the laws and regulations of the country,” he said.

Mr Boateng said CAG had visited a number of communities in Accra, particularly slum areas in the organisation’s quest to help address the development challenges of Ghana.

2020 agenda

In 2020, he said, attention and priority would be placed on election-related campaigns, considering the fact that every election had its own challenges.

Mr Boateng said it would be suicidal for Ghana to act as if nothing could affect our peace and stability, adding that efforts should be made to ensure that people understood the essence of peace.

CAG, he said, would deploy its peace ambassadors to various communities in the country, beginning from the Greater Accra Region to the remaining 15 regions.

Mr Boateng also advocated a special body that would be mandated to educate Ghanaians on negative attitudes that stifled the progress of any nation.

He said until the attitude of the people “are changed, it will be difficult for Ghana to achieve its development goals and rise above its present state”.
